My Project
For my project, I taught after school nature lessons at the CHAMPs program at the Jordan Jackson. I did 5 sessions, each session ranging from 2-5 weeks long. Look below to explore each session!
Goals
1) Find a project
- I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my project. I knew I wanted to do something with the environment or working with kids.
2) Find a mentor
- My mentor is Laura O'Sullivan, who is in charge of the CHAMPs after school program
3) Plan and teach at the CHAMPs program
- For each session, I had to come up with lesson plans and find supplies before I taught
Time Line
I found a project and a mentor. My project was dependant one whichever potential mentor got back to me.
I met with my mentor and talked about what my sessions would be and what the clubs are like.
Started my sessions!
Session 1
Session 2
Session 3
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Native Nature
Winter Wildlife

We learned how to reuse and recycle everyday items like toilet paper rolls and milk cartons. We made Halloween-themed crafts and we made a worm compost bin.

This session we learned about all of the animals that live in MA and all of the animals the settlers would've seen when they first came to America.

In this session, we focused on animals that we see in the winter. Some of our projects included rabbits, owls, and coyotes.
Session 4
Session 5
Pets
Spring Fun!

We learned about the pets we have in our houses and made toys out of things like old t-shirts.

For the final session, we learned about how we could make a positive impact on our own backyard.
